A signature Heathcote varietal, this Shiraz shows an elegant minerality and spice on the nose alongside blackberries and blueberries that are supported by firm, fine tannins. This wine will reward cellaring. Drink now, or hold out until 2016.
Comments
Here's a classic example of shiraz from fashionable cool-climate Heathcote. This is McIvor's flagship and a find standard-bearer. Has a quite exotic bouquet showing complex licorice, olives and mulberries. Finishes with a touch of spice and creamy texture. Good with pepper steak.

Five stars.
One of my favourite Victorian producers. I stumbled across the wines from McIvor Estate a year or two ago and haven't looked back. This is classic Heathcote packed with plenty of dried spices and black pepper. There's a good dose of dark fruit to go with the spice, too, so a little more time in the bottle would be the right thing for this powerful shiraz.

Bright colour; loaded with black fruit, mineral backbone and a little tar; dark, chewy and quite rugged, with a long, savoury and quite tarry finish; a big wine needing time. 93/100.

Nose
Spicy, minerally and very perfumed, with blackberries, blueberries and inky notes. Dark earth and wood are well integrated.
Palate
Inky, silky ripe brambly fruits supported by firm, fine tannins with hints of French oak. More in the Cote Rotie, Northern Rhone vein than a brutish Aussie shiraz, it shows an elegant minerality and good acid structure. The wine will benefit from decanting and being served at a cool room temperature. Whilst just a baby at the moment with the appropriate amount of cellaring to integrate and soften it will be a really delicious drink in 3-5 years.
